Andy Goldsworthy Pieces around the Presidio

Andy Goldsworthy is a british artist who has created four pieces around the Presidio Heights area in San Francisco and a couple down at Stanford. He takes inspiration from nature and uses twigs, logs, leaves, and stones to create his works. They're all very subtle pieces of art, that one might not even notice them as a piece of art. Each piece evokes the complex separation of what is "natural" and what is "manmade". I thought it was fun to go around and try to look for the four pieces around the Presidio.

This was my favorite of all the works of art because it's the most understated and picturesque. It's called "Lovers' Lane," and it's about .5 miles to walk all the way down it. It's located right near the old military homes that were built in the 19th century. It got it's name "Lovers' Lane" because it was the path the soldiers used to travel to meet up with their significant others.

This piece is made from a eucalyptus tree and cracked clay.

This piece, called "Spire", was made out of cypress trees and it is 90 feet tall. If you go on a walk in the Presidio it's hard to miss.

This piece is located at the Officers' Club in the Presidio, right off of the patio of an amazing restaurant called Arguello. It's called "Earth Wall" and it is the newest of the four pieces in the Predisio, completed in 2014.
